Just for fun I asked Caleb for a good June buzzword to chew on as I painted. Being the dashing, practical thinker that he is, he pitched me the phrase energy efficient.  Yep, the hot, heavy-AC days of Texas June were in mind.

When he saw I was finished, he smiled and said, "And where's the Prius?"
Perfect.

A new month to celebrate! Happy April to you, my fine feathered friend.


This month I'm thankful for warm, sunny weather, and for a new outdoor swing to enjoy these longer days with my sweetie.

A year ago, I made my first desktop calendar in order to share something I love to do--a simple, quick composition of color from my sketchbook--with my family and friends. It has been a joy to hear of friends from all walks of real life and web-life enjoying the calendars and it has been a great creative discipline to keep me challenged and consistently painting.  


Here's to more s k calendars, straight from the bottom of my {brightly colored} heart :)

Dining Table

Remember how our dining glass top was resting on saw horses for months? Oh, I didn't mention that?...Well, it was.

And though it was entertaining to get comments like, "Hmm, that's a--unique table...." we acted on our grand plan to build a base. It's a simple design; clean geometry and painted butter yellow. We have been enjoying it, and after sharing a few meals with friends with our creation in the supporting role [har har], it has proven sturdy and stable. I think it fits us nicely.

We put it together one afternoon.

Primed and painted.

Yep, typically used for fence posts...perfect! We love character.

And...

All in a day's work. And much, much cheaper than buying one.

Thoughtful Slop

I had the pleasure of sharing my paints with my sweet neighbor-friends, and sneakily so--to surprise her daddy with a personalized surprise for father's day. What fun to watch them squeeze, squish, and slop onto a very happy canvas full of tiny memories captured for dad.

...in the form of my sweet grandmother's needlepoint. Veggie needlepoint.

...a little bit yellowed and from another time.

Of course, I love it.

I think I remember these hanging on the walls of their kitchen; the kitchen where I have stood barefoot many times on the cold, white terrazzo, watching as Mar puts together the "Sallie salad" of assorted veggies she knows I like--each type into a section of her compartmentalized glass tray.

Sweet memories.

Crunchy, refreshing veggies.

Now hanging above our stove :)

simple little project

We bought a few dusty ol' scraps at Habitat's Restore for a couple of bucks. That place is so fun to scavenge!

This one has a new use :)
