DIY Cornice Boxes

Creative Mama (and our talented team of carpenters) helped me make fabric-covered cornice boxes for our living room windows. The windows have slight arches and our shades are rectangular, so I needed something to create the illusion that the windows are squared off--like the other windows in the room, thank you Builder.

The guys built the 2x structure, we stapled on batting then tightly stapled on my fabric of choice, lined the back with muslin (so the bare wood doesn't show from outside), and mounted them with L brackets onto the wall.

Our favorite part is that in the morning, when the sun is rising on that side of the house, they let a little bit of sunlight peek in from behind.
